Waterway Remediation

As industry has addressed many of the source areas of contamination, focus has moved downstream. As a company born in the Gulf Coast, we have a great deal of experience working in soft, wet soil conditions in, and around, bodies of water. RECON has substantial experience in remediation of surface waters including streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, bayous, and bays. Specific techniques involve stream diversion, cofferdam installation, mechanical dredging, sediment solidification, stabilization, dewatering, water treatment, and wetlands mitigation. Specialized equipment and techniques include marsh buggy excavators, crane mats, sheet piling, silt and turbidity curtains, temporary dikes, and bridges.

RECON performed emergency actions at this 38-acre coastal property in Southern California. The site contained 750,000 cubic yards of waste within several lagoons. Heavy rains produced stress cracks and leakage in the side berms supporting the waste.

Project Features
  • Removing over 62,000 tons of non-RCRA and nonhazardous waste, installing stormwater control systems and erosion control feature
  • Managing the highly viscous, saturated drilling muds and tank bottom sludge with a specialty excavator
  • Meeting the project schedule by shipping 50 truckloads of waste each day.
