1,000,000 man-hours without an OSHA recordable incident

Press Release Issued 2010

The Competitive Advantage of Safety

This week Remedial Construction Services surpassed 1,000,000 man-hours without an OSHA recordable incident.  This represents 18 months of constructing slurry walls, stabilizing hazardous waste, jet grouting foundations, and the list goes on.  In short performing some of the most dangerous construction work around.
This is a great milestone for the employees of RECON, but it is also a great day for the clients and shareholders of RECON.  Sure a great safety record lowers insurance premiums and avoids costly lawsuits, but the value of a strong safety culture that mitigates incidents goes far beyond these small savings.  A strong safety culture is a competitive advantage.

  • It attracts employees,
  • It attracts customers,
  • It builds a brand,
  • It minimizes production losses,
  • It reduces equipment maintenance and repairs, and
  • It makes project performance more predictable so estimating can be more accurate, which will result in more projects in the win column,

The list goes on…. RECON’s safety culture is our brand.  As an example, RECON is currently working on the largest refinery expansion in the US.   Our safe work practices have won us two Presidents awards for this Fortune 50 Company, but the real win has been our client’s trust and respect.  This trust and respect has translated into numerous bid opportunities, and when you remediate hazardous waste for a living, trust is of paramount importance.
