  • Soil remediation, one discipline within the broader scope of environmental remediation, is the process of decontaminating soil. RECON is an industry leader in soil and sludge stabilization and solidification.
  • A secant wall is used in deep foundations in situations where the surface soil layers are unstable.
  • Among the processes used in soil remediation, excavation and dredging are among the most common. The process involves extracting unrecoverable contaminated soil.
  • Secant pile walls are one of the most economical methods of creating effective water control barriers for building structural walls, top-down tunnels and dams.
  • Deep Soil Mixing is a in-situ soil improvement technology used to construct cutoff or retaining walls and to treat contaminated soils.
  • This sludge pond is a good candidate for bio remediation or stabilization.
  • RECON's excavator is capable of digging a slurry wall up to 100 ft deep. Slurry walls have been used for decades to provide cost-effective, long-term solutions for many groundwater control problems.
  • Soil remediation project using remote placement conveyor.
  • Driving concrete pile to strengthen and support structural foundations.
  • Slurry wall construction is used to create non-structural barriers (Cutoff Walls, Slurry Trenches), which are constructed underground to impede groundwater flow.

Environmental Decommissioning and Demolition

A substantial percentage of our project work has included impacted or hazardous waste removals and associated decommissioning and demolition. RECON performs surgical and mass removal of impacted media, including above and below ground structures and piping; concrete supports; and associated production buildings. This impacted media has included Radiological, NORM, and mixed waste.

We employ emissions control systems, from temporary cover agents, up to fully enclosed negative-air structures, at sensitive remediation projects. RECON employees are trained to perform work in PPE Levels B, C, and D. We provide turnkey, off-site disposal of contaminated media to appropriate disposal facilities.

Zero emission of fugitive dust, odor, target contaminants, and excessive noise is our goal on every site.

Demolition

This task order was completed under an IDIQ cost reimbursable contract with Chevron EMC for environmental remediation in the U.S.

Project Features

• Clearing the 2-story, 640 feet by 75 feet, concrete structure of asbestos tiles, lead-based paint, transformers, light ballasts and pigeon dropping

• Demolishing the structure using excavators equipped with grapple attachments

• Starting from the inshore area, RECON worked toward the outer pier, using the rubble as a platform for the equipment and haul trucks

• Restoring 800 feet of combined sheetpile reinforced shoreline and a timber-relieving platform and covered the area with geotextile and a 3-foot thick layer of armor stone

• Installing 2,000 linear feet of turbidity curtain and containment boom in the Newark Bay to limit the migration of sediments and debris
