Bioremediation treats most organic contaminant impacted soils by enhancing naturally occurring organisms to metabolize organic contaminants ultimately resulting in CO2, water, and biomass. In general terms, the goal of bioremediation is to lower the concentration of pollutants below regulatory levels that allow treated wastes to remain onsite or be returned to the excavation.
RECON performs bioremediation using in-situ and ex-situ techniques as well as aerobic and anaerobic degradation. In-situ bioremediation, or bioventing, involves the stimulation of indigenous microbial populations in the subsurface to biodegrade organic contaminants. Ex-situ techniques, including windrow composting, land farming or bio-pile treatment, are coupled with the addition of nutrients and ensure oxygen transfer.
